Which Amazon Marketplace to Sell On?
    Section 1, Lecture 10

Which Amazon marketplace to sell on?

Amazon has marketplaces in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Canada, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Australia, Brazil, Japan, China, India, Mexico, and Australia

I don't want to make this complicated, or a difficult decision for you. However, I still think you should know the facts about each Amazon marketplace around the world.

Amazon.com is the biggest marketplace by far and dwarfs all other marketplaces.

Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.de are the second biggest and each do around 30% of the sales of Amazon.com. In other words they are around one third the size of Amazon.com.

Amazon.jp is the next largest at around 20% of Amazon.com. So it is about one fifth the size of Amazon.com.

Amazon.it is not too far behind Japan and is growing fast.

Amazon.fr is smaller, BUT online retail is growing in France and Amazon is taking a large share of that growth.  It's estimated that around 38% of Internet users in France, visit Amazon.fr at least once a month.

Amazon.ca does around 10% of the volume of Amazon.com. In other words it is one tenth the size of Amazon.com.  Like France, Canada has lagged behind when it come to online retail.

Amazon.in is also relatively small at this time, but Amazon is putting a lot of resources in to expanding the market in India.

Amazon.com.au only opened early 2018 and is still very new.  There is no data to compare it to other marketplaces yet.

Amazon.es, Amazon.mx, Amazon.cn, Amazon.nl, are the smallest Amazon marketplaces (we can't compare Amazon.com.au at this time). One reason for this is due to these countries being slower to catch up with the growth in online retail. Another reason is that in some cases, other big online retailers are still taking the lion's share of online sales.

Amazon.com.br (Brazil) only sells Kindle and books at this time, so you can ignore this marketplace.

Some Exciting Facts about Amazon that Directly Impact Our Potential Earnings

Don’t worry if there’s any terminology here that you don’t understand. By the time you’ve completed the course, you will be fully versed!

There are now more Amazon sellers breaking the $1,000,000 a year mark than EVER before

    1) Amazon Prime customer membership is exploding with more than 60 million Prime members in the US alone.

It's estimated that 44% of US households are now signed up as Prime customers on Amazon. To us as sellers this is GREAT. Prime customers spend more and buy more items.

If you are following the lessons in this course, you will be a ‘Prime seller’ and be able to take advantage of the Prime growth. Therefore all those 10's of millions of Prime customers will favor YOUR listings over the listings of non-Prime sellers.

    2) A recent survey has shown that 40% of adults always or almost always search Amazon when shopping online.

    3) 50% of online shoppers who visit the Amazon website end up making a purchase. That's a 50% conversion rate. The industry wide average for online retail is 3%. If you have a website that converts at 3%, you can still make a living out of that. A website that converts at say 10%, is doing really, really well. So imagine 50%. Heck, nobody can beat that!

    4) Amazon.com now has 300 million+ active registered customers

    5) Amazon has now dwarfed other large online retailers, such as Walmart.com. Analysts are labelling Amazon as being 'in a league of its own'

    6) Amazon UK is Britain’s most influential retailer

I'm sure you'll agree that you are in the right place at the right time. In fact there's nowhere else you could be right now that has this much potential.

Sure, there will be the new sellers coming along in their droves. And the sellers who don't last 5 minutes on Amazon because they think they can break the rules or have no idea that the rules even exist.

But all of that doesn't matter when you have the right knowledge to always be several steps ahead.

    What's next?...

It's time to start the 'over-the-shoulder' lessons, and we begin with choosing your first product to sell on Amazon

The demo of Merchant Words in the previous lecture shows figures for the US marketplace only, so what if you are selling in a different marketplace, such as the UK, or Canada, or elsewhere?

You can still use the same figures because if a product is popular on Amazon.com, it is likely to also be popular elsewhere.  It's not a perfect solution of course, but it's the best we can do.

Remember that Merchant Words is only an additional confirmation of the research you have done already.

    Branding/Packaging.

    Private labeling.  www.yourstatistics.net/am-Private-Labelling.pdf

Private Labeling does not need to be complicated or costly because we have a number options open to us.
Option 1-Affix a unique UPC code over the existing UPC. This is the simplest option.
Option 2–Stick a logo on the packaging, providing the packaging is plain.
Option 3–Create a bundle or multipack. By doing so we can create a ‘unique’ product.
Option 4–have our own package design created
Option 5–have a logo on the actual product itself.

    Packaging options.

Option 1. Have your own custom packaging with your own design and logo on the packaging.
    A. Get the package template from the supplier on alibaba. Send the template file to someone over at fiver. Find a fiver seller with good reviews and good price, design the style and colors you want to use and ask the fiver freelancer to make it. You can also add your upc code to the design. Once you get the design send it back to the supplier. The only downfall is that the supplier will require a larger order to do this.

    B. So there is another way to do this because you want to try and start out with a small quantity if you possibly can. This is really the best way to go. So rather than purchase a larger quantity than you want to you could get custom printed boxes and then box the products yourself so box the items yourself. Now this way you can do the same thing you can get the same result same end result but the MOQ can be as low as you want and you can either order from somewhere like Ali express if you prefer because you will have no minimum order quantity if you're going to do it yourself.
You can get custom packaging at https://packlane.com/ . For 50 of the smaller mailer boxes the price would be $2.44 per box, but could varry depending on the design. https://packlane.com/products/mailer-box

Option 2. Same custom package as option 1 but also having a logo printed or embossed on the product.
Same as (A) above but also send the logo as well. The supplier can put the logo on the products. Usually the MOQ has to be 500 to 1000 units to do this.

You can also choose to have logo stickers made and you can have the supplier stick them on the products. Not as professional looking as having the logo embossed on the product but it is a lot cheaper.  (1.37inches ) 35MM Printing Custom Self Adhesive Logo Stickers Lables Personalized stickers labels 500pcs/lot $28 for them all Click Here. Or you can get 1,000 custom stickers in the USA for only $30 here.

Option 2. Same custom package as option 1 and 2, but also trade marketing the brand name and logo.
This will be expensive and you should get a trademark attorney. For 1 trademark name it is around $700. You would have to pay another $500 or so to trademark a logo.  https://onlinetrademarkattorneys.com/

    DIY BRANDING
Like I mentioned above you can have stickers printed of your brand/logo Here , Here and Here. You can also get gift tags with hemp string to tie around a ploy bag or place in a box you can put the logo sticker on the tags or just put the logo sticker on the box or even the product. Look here for tags. They are about $1.70 for 100 of them. Or you can pay around $50 for 1,000 custom tags here.

    FAQs about branding

    FAQs about branding

    Q. If I brand my product, do I need to enroll in Amazon’s Brand Registry and if I do, will in increase sales

    A. No, Brand Registry is optional.  It requires you to trademark your brand name and simply having your product enrolled in Brand Registry does not increase sales

    Q. Can I start off without branding my product, then brand it later and still use the original listing?

    A. Yes. If you create a listing of an unbranded or generic brand product, do not enter any brand name in the title, bullet points or description of the listing.  Later, when you do brand your product, simply change the images and edit the title to reflect the brand name

    Q. Can I have multiple brands under one seller account?

    A. Yes, it’s the individual products that are branded, not the account.  Therefore you can have as many as you like

    Shipping/Labeling.

Always best to get the fulfillment network stock keeping unit (FNSKU code) and send it to the supplier to put on instead of a upc code, because Amazon will put an FNSKU code on over the cpu code and charge you for it.

UPC Codes, Barcode Graphics and the FNSKU Labels

All these codes and labels can be mega confusing! So I’ve put together a guide so that you can get it all clear in your head. Once you know it, it’s really simple

UPC code. This is the long number that you see on products that you buy retail. It’s always accompanied by a graphic and this is what gets scanned at the checkout in a store.A UPC code will cost around $5-$10 and every product has its own unique UPC code. Note: It’s every PRODUCT, not every unit. For example, if you sell ‘blue widgets’ you only need one UPC code, even if you sell a million of them. However, if you then decide to also sell ‘green widgets’, you will need another UPC code because it’s a different product

Barcode graphic. This is the graphic above the UPC code. Sometimes when you buy a UPC code you get the graphic as well, but sometimes not. However, the graphics are free and you can usually download them from the website where yyou purchased the UPC.

FNSKU. This is Amazon’s own FBA identifying code. If you are not using FBA, then you won’t need this code. However, if you ARE using FBA (as recommended), then every item you sell will need to have an FNSKU code on it.

Amazon will do this for you at a cost of20 cents per unit. This cost has been included in the lecture on ‘Calculating Profits’. Amazon will actually stick the FNSKU label on top of the UPC code, so you might wonder why you even NEED a UPC code in the first place.

Well you will ALWAYS need a UPC code because it’s required for creating a new listing on Amazon. However, if you want to save yourself 20 cents per unit, you can affix the FNSKU label yourself, before you send your items to Amazon.

Just to be totally clear, your items MUST have either a UPC code label or an FNSKU code label on them when they arrive at the FBA warehouse. If they do not, they will be rejected.

Later on in this course (when we get to the relevant part), you will learn more about FNSKU’s and how to get Amazon to affix them for you. For now, you just need to understand what they are.

Where to buy UPC codes: There are dozens of websites where you can buy UPC codes, but not all are /span> authentic. To be authentic, a UPC code must be ‘GS1’ compliant and that means buying from a genuine reseller of GS1 compliant UPC codes. https://ezupc.com/

How to get the barcode graphic: If your UPC code does not come with the graphic, you can generate it for free here: https://barcoding.com/resources/barcode-generator/

How to get the FNSKU labels/span>

In order to explain this, I need to jump ahead a bit and right now, the screenshot below will be totally unfamiliar to you. However, later on you can refer back to this handout.

If you decide to affix the FNSKU labels yourself in order to save 20 cents per unit, you can download the labels from within your seller account. There’s is no point trying to do this yet, because at this time you don’t have a listing set up.

Under ‘Inventory’ select ‘Manage Inventory’ To the right of your listing in the drop down box under ‘Edit’, select ‘Print labels’

Okay let’s just summarize this to be totally clear:

You will aalways need a UPC code for your product because it’s required as part of the product listing set up./span>

Please read the below text in red carefully because it’s really important, but I get tons of questions indicating that students have not absorbed this information. That’s why it’s now in red!

Your items do not necessarily need to have the UPC code affixed to them. If you affix the FNSKU labels to the items before sending your stock to FBA, then you don’t need to have the UPC code on the items.

However, if you don’t affix the FNSKU labels yourself and instead opt to let Amazon affix them at the warehouse, then you DO need the UPC code on the items.

So, to repeat-your items MUST have either a UPC code label OR an FNSKU code label on them when they arrive at the FBA warehouse. If they do not, they will be rejected.

If you are sending to a 3rd party inspection company to check the quality and put the labels on you can choose https://fbainspection.com
    Here is the companies pricing.

When using a 3rdparty intermediary to prep and forward your inventory to FBA, follow their guidelines/tutorials. They will have a process in place for you to follow. If you are looking for a 3rdparty service anywhere else than the US, do your research on Google to find out what’s available for your chosen country. If there are multiple companies to choose from, compare prices and look online for reviews. See more in the lecture on using a 3rdparty prep company.

    Getting the FNSKU labels

You can download the FNSKU labels when creating the incoming shipment, or you can simply go to ‘Manage Inventory’ and select ‘Print Labels’ from the drop down ‘Edit’ function.

Choose a label size appropriate for your product and enter the number of FNSKU labels you want.

Choose a label size appropriate for your product and enter the number of FNSKU labels you want. After clicking ‘print item labels’, the A4 sheet of labels will download as a PDF which you can email to your supplier, to a 3rdparty intermediary company, or print off for your own use

Remember that you always need to affix the FNSKU labels over the top of any existing barcode that may be present on your units.

    Getting the FBA Shipping Labels

    Once you hav
e set up your incoming shipment, you can click ‘work on shipment to get your shipping labels for the outside of the shipping box/s. Choose ‘small parcel delivery’ and for the carrier, choose ‘other’ if you are shipping from overseas, or choose one of Amazon’s partnered carriers if you are shipping domestically.

In the next step choose ‘use web form’ to enter information about your boxes.

Finally, in the next step you can click ‘print box labels’ to download the shipping labels as a PDF. You can email the PDF to your supplier, to a 3rdparty intermediary company, or print off for your own use. You can ignore any message that says ‘you have requested to change the number of boxes’.

There is a label for each box, but each label has a different number on it. Therefore you cannot duplicate one label for multiple boxes. If your supplier is going to be putting the shipping labels on the boxes, make sure he knows that each label is unique.

    Product Listing

    Product Listings – Images

Images are THE most important part of your product listing. Low quality images will affect your conversion rates.

Remember when I showed you my conversion rates of 26%? You should be aiming for at least 20%, so make sure your images are clear and your product can be seen properly. If you need to show different angles of your product, do so.

Here are the guidelines to follow:

Images should be at least 1000 pixels on the shortest side. This is to allow for zoom. The main image should have a pure white background

The product should take up as much space as possible on the background (especially for the main image)

Images should be clear and not blurry or pixelated

Add as many images as you can – minimum of 4

If possible create one ‘infographic’. Or have one created on fiverr.com (for more on infographics see the later lecture)

Avoid 3D rendered images (computer generated graphics)

    How to get images

Use images from your supplier’s page. If watermarked, ask for images without the watermark.

Use your phone or camera to take your own photos. There are many apps for Android and IOS that allow to take pretty good photos and edit them.

If you need images edited or enhanced, go to fiverr.com or go to the content page to see other vedors.

Another option is to have your product photos taken by a professional, but you will need to send him/her one of your items. Scroll down to software you will see a link to professionals that provide this service.

    See this gig here:https://www.fiverr.com/dcoufal/produce-professional-photos-of-your-product

For $5 (at the time of creating this document) he will shoot 4 high quality photos of your product. Can’t get much better than that!

    Product Listing Titles Part 1

Titles are doubly important because firstly they help to covert the visitor into a buyer, and secondly they help your listing to show up in the Amazon search results.

Your title length must be 200 characters or less and please note that some categories allow less than 200 characters. If in doubt, ask seller support for the information on title length for your category. Additionally, Amazon periodically changes the allowed title character length for new listings in some categories. Unfortunately there is no ‘list’ anywhere that give us this information, so as mentioned above, if in doubt ask seller support.

Your title should clearly tell the Amazon user exactly what the product is.

The most important part of your title is the first 70-80 characters because this is the part that shows on the Amazon search results page, along with a thumbnail of your main image. Therefore, make sure that the most important information in your title, is in the first 70-80 characters (70 is safer).

A good title will give the user all the vital information about the product and leave the user with no doubt in their mind as to exactly what the product is.

A good title should also read well. It should make sense when you read it.

You can use hyphens to separate out sentences instead of full stops if you wish. It makes the title easier to read.

Your title along with your images are the two most important elements of your listing page for converting visitors into sales.

All the important information about to product should be in the title. Sometimes it's good to have dashes between product information in the title to make it easier to read. For example HP 250 gig flash drive - more info - more info -

Most people only read the title and the first two or three bullet points. Use as much information in the title as possible did not leave a lot of empty space. You can start a title with pen all think and use words like premium to build it up, Here is a list of marketing words or terms. Click here , here, here, and here.

Ideas to include in the title.
what is it made out of? Is it safe?
Use the word upgraded so people will think they have a newer version of the product or latest version

But one of the most important things is to add as many keywords as possible and Search terms. A great way to get the most popular Search terms is by going on to Amazon and typing the product in the search bar. Underneath what you type will show many other popular Search terms. You can take a screenshot of those terms so you will know which keywords to use. Another keyword source is https://keywordtool.io/Amazon . You can also use https://www.keywordtooldominator.com/ . You are limited to the amount of daily searches but it resets the next day. Put keywords from all three sources in a list on a spreadsheet in the order of popularity. Delete dupes and delete keywords that does not apply to the product. Use all the search terms in the title. There's a lot of competition on Amazon so to get chosen over another perfectly designed listing one word could help a lot. Here are some keywords for a head mounted light (head lamp light, head lamp led, head lamp rechargeable, head lamp running, head lamp camping, head lamp super bright, head lamp usb.  Here is an example of a title using the rules previously mentioned.  Night Hawk - latest version - super bright - led - head lamp - rechargeable - perfect for camping, running or cycling.

    Product Listing Bullet Points

Bullet points are positioned below the title on the page. You have 5-7 bullet points (usually 5, but depending on the category you might have 7) and it’s recommended to use them all if you can.

Your bullet points should contain important information that is not already in the title.

Each bullet point can be up to 250 characters in length. There’s no need to use all of the characters. Only use them all if you need to. Don’t pad out your sentences just in order to use up the characters.

Put the most important bullet points at the top, because often a user will only read the first 2 or 3 bullet points.

Bullet points should contain features and benefits.

    “features tell, benefits sell”

Each bullet point should state a feature followed by the benefit of that feature. Sometimes there is more than one benefit of a particular feature. That’s okay, just state all the benefits that relate to the particular feature.
Here is an example pertaining to a dog leash.

Easy on easy off design that it makes putting it on your Hassle free. "Easy on easy off design" is the feature and "that it makes putting it on your Hassle free" is the benefit.

It’s a good idea to have a word or two, or three, in upper case at the beginning of each bullet point. Makes it easier for the user to read.

Don’t use symbols or signs like ticks, stars, or anything else. Hyphens ARE acceptable and can sometimes help to break up the text if you have a very long bullet point. However, don’t overuse them because otherwise your bullet points will start to look messy.

    Product Listing Descriptions

The description is the least important part of your listing because of where it’s positioned on the page. Many, if not most users will skip right past it and not even notice it.

However, even if 15% of users read your description, that gives you a chance to convert some of that 15% into a sale. Therefore, treat your description with the same importance as your bullet points and title.

Descriptions that are displayed in one big block of text are difficult to read and this should be avoided. Descriptions that go right across the page can also be harder to read, so this should also be avoided.

The best way to format a description is to keep the lines short, separate the text into paragraphs, and use bolding to create headlines.

    What should be included?

Include everything that is not already covered in the title and the bullet points.

You can repeat some of the info already in the bullet points if you wish, but re-word it rather than simply copying it word for word.

You can add some ‘sales copy’, for example, ‘premium quality at low price’, or

‘manufactured to the highest standards’, ‘built to last’, ‘looks amazing in any kitchen’.

It’s not really necessary to talk about a guarantee because Amazon customers already know they have a guarantee, but if you want to mention it, that’s okay. However, do not overstate the guarantee. Some listings say things like ‘lifetime guarantee’. This is just plain silly! Nothing lasts for life. It sounds gimmicky. If you want to mention the guarantee, just put something like, ‘no-quibble guarantee’, without even mentioning any sort of time period.

If you wish, you can also add a ‘call to action’ at the end, instructing the user to click add to cart at the top of the page.

Creating a Listing  – What You Will Need

Before creating your new listing, there are a few things you will need

UPC Code (the one you got from here https://ezupc.com/ )

Category and sub-category. You want your product to be listed in the same category and sub-category as the best selling items similar to your product.

The best way to do this is by typing your product in the search bar on Amazon, then clicking through on the best-selling items to see which category and sub-category they are listed in. Make a note of this information

Keywords. We already gathered a small list of keywords for the title, but now we need a bigger list. Retrieve your original keyword list if you still have it. If not, go to Amazon and use the ‘auto suggest’ to generate and make a note of the most important keywords.

Next go to http://keywordtool.io/amazon and generate a larger list. Copy the list to a notepad

Remove any duplicates or keywords that do not apply to your product

Images. A minimum of 4 images.

Title, Bullet Points and Description. You can create these at the time of setting up the description, or you can write them out on a text file ahead of time.

The approximate weight of your product. This will be displayed on your listing page, so if you are guessing, try to be fairly accurate! It also helps if you have the measurements of your item. The length, width and height.

Setting up a Listing in Seller Central Part 1

To see a video of this set-up scroll up to the video and open the playlist. Start the 3rd video in the playlist at the 1 hours and 20 minute mark.

On your seller central dashboard, click on Inventory – Add a Product.

Click on the link ‘Create a New Product Listing’

Under ‘All Product Categories’ select the main category for your product. Use the information you got earlier when you looked at the categories and sub-categories of the highest ranking products of the same type as yours. You want to copy these categories as closely as possible when you are listing your product.

Click on ‘Select’ when you have found the right category for your product.

As soon as you are redirected to the listing set up page, is to toggle to ‘Advanced View’

On the ‘vital Info’ page, complete the fields as per the video lecture.

Do the same for ‘Offer’, ‘Images’ and ‘Description’

    Instructions for formatting your Description:

To create a paragraph, use the html <p></p> It’s not necessary to do this for the first paragraph because there is nothing before it.

    For example:

With 18 White Led and 2 Red Led, the headlamp has 4 different lighting modes, including the red flashing mode, which will effectively prevent you from getting run over by others.<p>No longer need to read next to a desk lamp, this wireless helmet light allows you read anywhere you like.</p><p>With two adjustable buckles, the maximum circumference of the headband is up to 21.6in/55cm, and the minimum is about 13.7in/35cm without stretching.</p>

    Would look like this:

With 18 White Led and 2 Red Led, the headlamp has 4 different lighting modes, including the red flashing mode, which will effectively prevent you from getting run over by others.

No longer need to read next to a desk lamp, this wireless helmet light allows you read anywhere you like.

With two adjustable buckles, the maximum circumference of the headband is up to 21.6in/55cm, and the minimum is about 13.7in/35cm without stretching.

To create bolding for headlines, use the html <b></b>

    For example:

    <b>Elastic and Durable Headband</b>

    Would look like this:

    Elastic and Durable Headband

    Keywords

To watch a video on this section. Go to the video screen on this page and click to bring up the playlist. Choose the 3rd video on the playlist and fast forward to the 1 hours and 46 minute mark.  In the keyword section you're only allowed to use 250 bytes for keywords. Bytes do not include spaces or punctuation. It is very important to keep it under 250 bites because it is believed by some that if you go over none of the other key words will work. If you're not selling much sometimes you could go back in your search terms and you can tweak some of your keywords and you'll see sometimes even overnight that it boost your rankings.

When entering keywords be sure to exclude any of the keywords that have been used in the title.
When entering separate your keywords and keyword phrases with a space not a comma and be sure to use all of the input fields.

    Setting up your incoming Shipment

To watch a video on this section. Go to the video screen on this page and click to bring up the playlist. Choose the 3rd video on the playlist and fast forward to the 1 hours and 56 minute mark.

Scheduling Your Incoming Product Shipment (Sending Your Items to FBA)

Once you have a listing created, you can go ahead and schedule your product's incoming shipment. This is what we do before we send our items to FBA. You can set this up in advance if you wish.

On the dashboard of your seller central account, hover your mouse over 'Inventory' and select 'Manage Inventory'. You will see your listing there but it will not be 'active' because you don't have any stock at Amazon yet.

    To create your shipment:

Click the drop down arrow beside 'Edit' and select 'Send/replenish Inventory'

Select 'Create a new shipping plan'

    Enter the 'Ship from' address*

For packing type select 'Case-packed products'

[*The ship from address is the address where the products are being sent from]

On the next page, enter the number of units per case and the number of cases. So if you have one box containing 40 units, you would enter 40 for 'units per case' and 1 for 'number of cases’.

    Click 'Continue'

On the next page you will be able to choose from 'Prep Required' or 'Prep may be required' Select 'Prep may be required' and select ‘Amazon’ under ‘Who Preps’, then click Continue

The next page is about labeling. Remember we discussed the FNSKU code label? If you need a refresher on this subject, go back the lecture ‘UPC Codes and More’.

Decide who is going to affix the FNSKU label. You? A third party company such as FBA Inspection? Or Amazon?

If it’s Amazon, select Amazon under ‘Who Labels’. Otherwise select ‘Merchant’

    Click Continue.

On the next page you will see a summary of your shipment, with the Ship from address, packing type (case-packed) and number of units.

You may also see this message:

"The inventory you send to Amazon may be split at the Merchant SKU (MSKU) level into multiple shipments. We will assign each shipment to a specific fulfillment center based on several factors including the size and category of the product, your address, and other fulfillment network factors"

We discussed this in the lecture on calculating your profits. If you only have one case, it will not apply to you. If you have multiple cases, it might apply to you. There’s nothing you need to do. Amazon is merely informing you that they might send some of your cases to different FBA warehouses.

If everything is okay, click on 'Approve Shipment'

On the next page, if you scroll down, you will now have the option to print the shipping labels for the boxes.

Before you do this, check the number of cases in the Print Labels box. Sometimes the number of cases reverts to 1, even if you have set your shipment for more than 1 case. Just change the number in the ‘Print Labels’ box if you need to. Don't worry, this does not affect your shipment.

Download the PDF with the shipping labels and save to your computer. You will need to attach these labels to your boxes before sending them to FBA. Or, if you are using a third party company such as FBA Inspection to do this for you, then you will be sending the labels to them. Or, if your supplier is sending your items directly to FBA, you will send the shipping labels to your supplier.

NOTE: Every case has its own individual label. If you have 5 cases, you will have 5 labels. These are NOT duplicate labels, they all have a different identifying number on them.

That's it, you have created a shipping plan and scheduled your first incoming shipment to FBA!

Once your products are actually on the way to FBA, you can go back in and mark them as shipped under 'Manage shipments', which you will find by hovering your mouse over 'Inventory' and selecting 'Manage FBA shipments'

    Marketing and Promotion

Kick Starting your Sales, the Right Way

Amazon sponsored ads can be a great way to start getting some sales and help you to move up the rankings.

But before we go into how that works, there’s something else we can and should do. We can use a strategy to get some initial sales and reviews, before even touching sponsored ads.

There are two ways to do this:

    1. Ask friends and family to purchase your product (at full price) and then write a review. You can send them the funds up front, or reimburse them afterwards. It's against Amazon's Terms & Conditions to solicit a positive review. However, we ARE allowed to ask for an unbiased review and in fact Amazon themselves email our customers and ask them to leave a review. Important – do not have anyone who lives at your address leave a review. If there is anywhere else where you regularly log in to your account, such as your work place, do not have anyone there leave a review either.

NOTE: Amazon will also filter out or remove reviews where they detect a connection between your seller account and the reviewer’s customer account. Example of that would be using the same IP address to log in. Or, if reviewers share the same IP address, this is another reason why reviews may be flagged. An example of that would be asking your co- workers to help you out by purchasing and reviewing your product. If some of them do this from the same location (work), this would also be seen as suspicious.

    2. Run a sale. Sales are set up from within your seller account and I’m going to show you how to promote your sale in Part 2 of this lecture. Many of these buyers will leave a review because they are happy to get a good product at such a great price.

NOTE: Amazon does not permit sellers to sell products at a discount, or give away products, in exchange for a review. This rule was put in place several months ago and in my opinion it was a welcome move on Amazon’s part. It prevents ‘heavy hitters’ from gaming the system and giving themselves an advantage over others.

This does NOT mean that you cannot offer products at a discount, or even give products away. You are perfectly entitled to do either or both of these things and if those customers wish to leave a review, great! That is not the same as ‘in exchange for a review’. Make sense?

    Aim for 5-10 reviews

    Setting up a Sale

Log into Seller Central. Go up to ‘Inventory’ on the menu and select ‘Manage Inventory’. To the far right of your listing, click on ‘Edit’

Under ‘Offer’ enter a sale price, a start date and an end date. I recommend you run your sale for one week to start off with. You can always extend it if necessary. I also recommend that you make your sale price very attractive. At least 50% off. In the below example, I have reduced the price by 70%.

    Click ‘Save and Finish’

    Promoting Your Sale

Once you have your sale set up, it’s time to promote it. The plan is to get as much exposure as possible and as quickly as possible.

Step 1 this is only for Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.com or Amazon.in. If you are selling on a different Amazon marketplace, skip this step – update, Amazon.ca has also now been added.

Go to ‘Retail Me Not’ https://www.retailmenot.com

Scroll down the footer and click on ‘Submit a Coupon’

Start typing ‘amazon’ into the box and select the relevant Amazon marketplace

Select ‘Online Sale or Tip’ and enter a description beginning with the % off. The best description to use is the actual title of the listing. Enter your end date and Submit.

It can take a few days for your offer to be approved and go live on the website. However, as long as your sale is for no less that one week, there will still be time for your offer to run on Retail Me Not.

    Step 2 – Facebook Groups

Go to Facebook and locate some ‘Amazon discount’ groups by searching for ‘amazon deals’, ‘amazon coupon codes’, ‘amazon discounts’. This can be very effective because these groups are frequented by users who are looking for great deals and coupons for Amazon products.

Visit the groups and join the ones that have the most members. If the group has rules, be sure to follow them. Look at other posts in the group to see what people are doing and follow suit.

    Step 3 – Online Classifieds

Advertise your sale in some of the bigger free online classified websites.

http://www.craigslist.org (mostly only applicable to US residents because you need a US phone number)

    https://www.gumtree.com (for the UK)

    http://www.olx.com

https://www.donedeal.ie (for Ireland because a lot of residents in Ireland order from Amazon.co.uk, however you must be a resident of Ireland to use this website)

    http://www.kijiji.ca (for Canada)

    More ad sites.

    http://www.recycler.com/

This is not a full list by any means, but start with these bigger classified sites and if you have time, go to Google and get some more!

NOTE, creating and promoting coupon codes is no longer included in this section of the course and here’s why:

It has become more and more difficult to get your coupon codes accepted on the ‘deal’ sites. Retail Me Not will still accept them, however, in my experience sales have always worked better than coupons on Retail Me Not.

Secondly, a sale will give you more exposure because it’s not limited to only the people who have a coupon code.

Thirdly, you cannot create coupon codes with the Individual seller account and right now it’s not necessary for you to upgrade and pay a monthly subscription for the Pro account.

If you DO wish to learn how to create a coupon, please look in the ‘Important Lessons and Resources’ section of the course!

Coming up… How to protect your inventory while running a sale

How to Protect Your Inventory While Running a Sale

When you have a sale going on, if it’s a 40% or more off sale, you should protect your inventory to prevent all your units being purchased by one customer, or your offer going viral and potentially all your units getting purchased at the sale price.

Step 1 – Preventing a single customer from buying all your stock

Until recently there was no way to do this, but fortunately Amazon realised the need for this option and added it to the ‘Offer’ tab.

Go to ‘Manage Inventory’, click ‘Edit’ and click on the ‘Offer’ tab.

In the ‘Max Order Quantity’ box, use the up/down arrows to enter 1 or 2. I usually like to set it at ‘2’ because sometimes customers like to purchase one for a friend or family member as well as one for themselves.

Step 2 – Preventing all your units from being purchased at the sale price

When you are running a sale with a big discount, it’s possible that your offer may get shared a lot and this could result in far more units being sold than you anticipated.

To make sure this doesn’t happen, you can reserve a certain amount of units for two weeks. This allows you to allocate a certain number of units to the sale and once they are gone, no more units can be purchased until you release the reserved units.

Go to ‘Manage Inventory’ and under ‘Edit’, select ‘Create Fulfillment Order’

Create a Multi-Channel Fulfillment Order for the number of units that you want to reserve. On the next page, choose the option to hold the order for 2 weeks.

This order will never ship because even if you forget to go in and cancel it, it will cancel automatically after 2 weeks.

However, you will want to cancel the fulfillment order once your sale is over, so that you can release the reserved units and make them available for sale again.

To do this, simply go to ‘Orders’, ‘Manage Orders’ and click on ‘Advanced Search’

Sort by ‘pending orders’ and choose the last 14 days for the date range.

Click ‘Search’ and a list of your pending orders will come up. Find the fulfillment order that you created, click on the order number and then click ‘Cancel’

Within 15-30 minutes your reserved inventory will be released back to your available stock.

A word of caution. Don’t create and cancel fulfillment orders repeatedly. Do it only when you really need to. In other words only do it when you run a sale with a big discount, which normally you would only do as part of a strategy to kick start a new listing.

Using Kindle E-books to Get More Sales

This is another little trick that hardly anyone uses and it's so simple. Although admittedly there is a little work involved. You will need either the ability to write a decent 20-30 page e- book yourself, or $100 - $200 or so to get somebody else to do it.

List your e-book for free on the Kindle marketplace. You need to do this through Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) which you should see listed as a link in the footer of your Amazon Seller account.

The purpose of the e-book is to get new customers.

So what should the e-book be about?

Well that obviously depends on the category and niche you are selling in. If you are selling in multiple niches, you will need to create an e-book for each one.

    Here are a few examples:

Cycle Accessories: The 50 Most Spectacular Cycling Routes in the US

Maternity Accessories: How to Look Great Throughout Your Pregnancy

Cat/Dog Toys: 10 Fun & Easy Tricks to Teach Your Cat/Dog

Wall Decor: Bring Your Room to Life With These Wall Decor Tips

Party Supplies: How to Throw the Best Kids Party Ever

Lighting: How to Turn a Bedroom into a Mini-Oasis

Office Supplies: Get More Done With These Office Organization Tips

Cleaning Supplies: Little Known Cleaning Tips to Save You Time and Money

You get the idea? There is nothing and I mean NOTHING that you can't write a related e- book about and make it interesting!

It’s usually better if you can write your own e-book, but if you can’t, you can find e-book writers on Fiverr. Try to choose a native English speaker if you are selling in an English speaking marketplace.

You will also need an e-book cover, which you can get designed on Fiverr for $5

Inside the e-book, make references to your product on Amazon and include the link both at the beginning of the book and at the end, as well as 3-5 times somewhere in the content.

You could also ask the reader to subscribe to your email list to get access to new product discounts and offers (however, you would need a website in order to do this).

You also need an autoresponder in order to collect email addresses and send can spam compliant emails to your list.

Mailchimp (autoresponder) is free until you hit a certain volume. I don't use Mailchimp, but I know others who do. Personally I have always used Aweber which starts at $19.99 a month with the first month at $1.

This allows you to collect email addresses OUTSIDE of the Amazon platform – allowing you to send them permission based emails.

Building up a list of email subscribers is very valuable because it means that whenever you launch a new product, you can use your email list to get the first sales and reviews on your listing.

If you don’t feel quite ready to start building an email list, you can leave that part out and simply create your e-book with a few references and links to your Amazon listing. Then list it on Kindle as a free e-book.

When it comes to getting downloads of your free e-book on Kindle, adapt as much as possible of the knowledge you gained in this course to help achieve some rankings and visibility. There are other things you can do in order to get more downloads of your book.

Type 'places to give away free kindle books' in Google to get tons of information on this subject!

Make SURE your e-book is formatted properly, is free of grammatical and spelling errors

and reads well. Typically, when you pay somebody on Fiverr to write an e-book, there will have many grammatical errors and possibly spelling errors too. If you don't feel confident proofreading it yourself, get a proof reader to do it. You will find proof readers on Fiverr. As a side note, from experience I have found that sending an e-book back to the freelancer for revision is a waste of time and energy.

You may also need to get somebody on Fiverr to format your e-book to Kindle specifications and convert it into a ‘mobi’ file to ensure that it displays properly on all devices. You could actually do both of these things yourself, but if you prefer to pay $5 to have it done for you, just use Fiverr!

Your e-book will remain on Kindle for as long as you leave it there, so potentially it can keep on bringing you visitors and sales indefinitely!

NOTE: To get a lot of downloads of your free e-book on an ongoing basis, you would need to promote it. One way to do this is to upload it to as many free e-book sites as possible.

There are many other ways but they are beyond the scope of this course. However, you should be able to find some useful tips and information by spending some time researching the subject on Google.

How to Get Accepted into a Restricted Category - Even as a Brand New Seller

Even new sellers with zero selling history can apply and get accepted to sell in restricted categories such as Health & Beauty or Grocery

Why would you want to bother?

Because some of these categories have massive volume and the opportunities are endless. Yes, there is also more competition, but because there are so many opportunities, you can still do incredibly well in these categories.

For example, Vitamin C Serum is a high volume product. There are a ton of sellers for this type of product, but even so, many of them are selling a lot of units every day. Packaging and presentation are ultra-important, as is creating a high converting listing. So follow the course lessons for listings and rankings and you will have a huge advantage over many other sellers, even in high competition categories.

When selling something like Vitamin C Serum (there are tons of other possibilities, I just picked this one as an example), you absolutely need to brand your product right from the start, otherwise you will not be able to stand out.

In a category such as Health or Beauty, even with a big advantage, you will still need to work hard to get your listing established and you will probably need to run several sales and promotions with at least 50 units allocated to each promotion.

However, there is no need to actually LOSE money on your promotions. Work it out that so that you at least break even. Even a 50% discount coupon will get plenty of takers for a popular product like Vitamin C Serum. Note, I am NOT suggesting or recommending Vitamin C serum as a product to sell. I am merely using it to demonstrate an example.

**You CANNOT source a product of this nature from China. If it goes on the body or in the body, it needs to be sourced either domestically, or from a country that has all the correct regulations in place regarding the manufacture of this type of product. Never, ever be tempted to source an edible or topical product from China and that includes products for animals.**

    Before you apply for approval…

Check the requirements for the restricted category you want to sell in

To find the Amazon page relevant to the marketplace you want to sell in, either search the Help pages from within seller central, or simple go to Google and type in:

‘Amazon (country) categories and products requiring approval’

Below is the list for Amazon US

    Click on ‘View requirements’

Please note that recently, Amazon has removed some categories from the list. Health & Beauty has been removed, as has Clothing and as has Industrial & Scientific.

However, you still need approval. Now, the way it works is that you need approval for the individual products you want to sell in those categories, as opposed to getting approval for the actual category as a whole.

There will be some products in these categories that you are able to sell without approval. For example, nail scissors would fall in the Health & Beauty category, but it’s unlikely that you would need approval to sell them. It’s just a pair of scissors. However, if you wanted to

sell skin cream for example (which also falls in the Health & Beauty category), you would definitely need approval.

Things you will need before you start the approval process

A website – although it’s not mandatory to have a website, your application will be looked upon more favourably if you have one.

Therefore you should set up a website specifically for your new product/s. Just a basic site on WordPress is all you need. Get some good images of your product, your logo, and write some content. If you don't want to set up the website yourself, get somebody Upwork.com to do it for you.

Even a basic site needs certain things. You will need a Home page, an About page, legal pages in the footer, contact details including a physical address. On top of that you should have enough content on the site so that it doesn’t look as if you have set it up for the sole purpose of getting approval!

3 invoices for the product you initially want to sell. To do this, ask your supplier to create 3 invoices instead of 1 for your first order. Explain to them why you need this and that it's only a one-time thing. So instead of getting one invoice for your order, ask the supplier to split into 3 and date them with different dates. If this is not possible, place 3 smaller orders a few days apart.

The downside is that you need to buy some stock even before you have gained approval. However, if it were me, I wouldn’t consider that to be a deal breaker because I would simply sell the stock somewhere else, such as a local classifieds website.

Once you have these two things, apply to Amazon for approval. You can do this from your Seller Central account. After applying, Amazon will come back to you and ask you for

invoices. Depending on the type of product, you may also be asked for other documentation.

If you DO get turned down, it is most likely because you ARE brand new. In this case, wait until you have two months (or so) selling history, and apply again.

Caveat - There may be some categories where Amazon will have further requirements. Such as Jewelry, which is more difficult to get in to. In fact it’s not possible for a new seller to get accepted into the Jewelry category.

Occasionally Amazon closes a category to new sellers, although this is never permanent and the closed category will always reopen again at some point.

Also note that the Toys category becomes a restricted category during the holiday (Christmas) selling period. The rest of the year it is not restricted. If you want to sell in Toys, the best way is to start selling while it’s not restricted. That way you will not have a problem getting approved when the holiday season comes around.

    Infographics for more sales.

    What is an infographic?

It’s simply an image with some information on it. Look at the example below:

The above infographic has a lot of text on it. Too much text for an Amazon listing image. Instead you could do something simpler, such as the example below:

Here’s another example. This one was taken from Alibaba, so it has a watermark on it, but it’s just for the purpose of showing you another example:

Why not create an infographic for your own Amazon listing? You could either do it yourself using a free image program, such as Paint dot net, or Gimp.

For the past 2 years I’ve been using Photoshop, but for many years before that, I used Paint dot net. (Windows machines only)

    http://www.getpaint.net/index.html

Of course, as with any program, there’s a learning curve and you might not feel it would be worth it to spend time on this sort of thing.

So, instead go to Fiverr and get one made for $5

You cannot use an infographic for your main listing image. It must be one of the supplementary images.

    Scaling Up

The Next Stage - Scaling up to $5000+ per Week

When you're ready to scale up and take your Amazon business to the next level, it's simply case of adding more product listings until you reach your goals.

When is the best time to do this?

Usually when you're getting a steady stream of organic sales. Why? Because by that time you will have learned a LOT about selling successfully on Amazon. Adding more products will be much, MUCH easier.

Advantages of selling multiple products aside from the obvious one of increased earnings!

Not having all your eggs in one basket. This is a biggie because if your supply is suddenly cut off, or delayed for whatever reason, you have just left yourself with no Amazon income until you launch another product or get more stock in. Whereas if you have, say, three products and something goes wrong with one of them, you still have the other two.

Allows you to sell seasonal products (which can often sell like crazy while in season) and still have an income from other products when the seasonal products are out of season.

    Wholesaling

Many sellers, once they have a product that's ranking well and selling well, will be approached by potential distributors with a request to purchase the product at wholesale. This can be a good thing because it gives you cash-flow which can help you place more orders for stock. The more products you have, the more wholesaling opportunities you will have.

However, there are a couple of pitfalls to be aware of…

The person who contacts you may not be genuine. An easy way to check this is to call the company they claim to represent and ask to speak with them. I've had many contacts from would be distributors asking to purchase wholesale from me, but not all of those have become my wholesale customers. First I would want to know their website address, where they intend to sell and what sort of quantity they are interested in buying.

It may be a competitor looking to purchase from you at wholesale, to resell on Amazon. Therefore you need to stipulate that your product cannot be resold on Amazon and have an agreement signed to this effect.

    Wholesaler expectations

Some wholesalers will expect you to have stock on tap whenever they want to order. As a new seller, just getting established and maybe working with limited cash flow, it's not always possible to fulfill the demands of wholesale customers. It's better to be upfront about this. Tell your wholesalers from the offset that they may need to pre-order and that you cannot supply orders over a certain amount of units (you determine the amount based on your situation).

Once your product is consistently selling well, you may want to brand it properly by having your own logo printed on it and redesigning the packaging to include a website and company address etc.

By doing these extra things, you can begin to look for larger wholesalers who may be interested in buying your product/s. This is one of the great things about selling your own product as opposed to the 'me too' method of selling on Amazon. You can make a serious income with only a small handful of products.

    Researched Products

    Please read these notes first:

Every item on this list has been researched on Amazon.com and for availability on Aliexpress so that you don’t need to worry about MOQ’s.

They will also be available on Alibaba and some you will be able to find from other supplier sources too. – However, the research was done using Aliexpress.

None are ‘restricted category’ items, so all are able to be listed in open categories.

Some of these items are suitable for creating bundles, 2-packs, or multipacks.

This is barely scratching the surface, even so, it does take time to compile a list like this. I compiled it myself and these are not ‘rejects’ from my own list! Every product on this list is one that I would sell myself. I did the research for them exactly as I would do if it were my own list.

You can source the items from the list, or use them as a starting point for discovering other suitable related products.

If you want to sell on another Amazon marketplace, there is usually a correlation between what sells well on Amazon.com and what sells well elsewhere, but it would still make sense to check first.

Please do not come to me with questions about these items, such as ‘which supplier on Aliexpress do you recommend for x item’ or ‘do you recommend I bundle x item with x’, etc. That part is up to you.

Running out of Stock can be Very Frustrating- Learn How to Keep Getting Sales Even When You are Out of Stock and How to Recover Your Rankings FAST When Your New Stock Arrives at Amazon.

Almost everyone runs out of stock occasionally. If we could avoid it completely we would, because from the moment you are out of stock, your rankings and BSR will start to drop. This can be very disheartening when you've just spent weeks getting your listing up the rankings and to the point where it's making some good sales every day.

However, don't despair :) I'm going to show you how to do some damage limitation and then, when you get more stock in, how to quickly get back to where you were before you ran out. It’s worth noting that once you have an established listing, occasionally running out of stock for a few days will not harm your rankings overall and your rankings will automatically return to normal within a few days of your item being back in stock. So the only time you should consider the below method, is if you run out of stock on a relatively new listing that is not yet properly established.

Additionally, only ever use this method if your stock is either on the way to Amazon, OR ready to be shipped. Never use this method if you don’t actually know when your stock is going to be shipped to Amazon. I cannot stress this enough!!

    Step 1 -

Go to Manage Inventory and click the drop down box beside 'Edit'. Select 'Change to Fulfilled by Merchant

Wait about 15 minutes and then still on the edit listing page, click on your product image to open up the page for editing.

    Click on the 'Offer' tab

You will see a default shipping amount beside 'Your Price'. Subtract that from whatever your current selling price is, and change the price to the new amount.

    For example:

Your current selling price is $19.99

The default shipping shows as $4.99

    Subtract $4.99 from $19.99 = $15

Enter 15 in the 'Your Price' box

You will also see a new field that was not there before you changed your listing to Fulfilled by Merchant. The new field is 'Quantity'

Enter an amount in there. I usually put 30.

Now scroll down to where it says 'Restock Date' (This field is also a field that is only displayed on Fulfilled by Merchant' listings).

You need to enter a date here and it cannot be more than 30 days in the future. If you are expecting your new stock to be at FBA in say 14 days, put a date in the box that is at least 24

days in the future. This is in case your stock is delayed. I usually like to leave a buffer of about 10 days, just to be on the safe side.

    Now click 'Save and finish'

Wait for about an hour and then check to see if your listing is live again (it will have gone inactive the moment you went out of stock). If it's not live, wait another hour or so and check again because sometimes Amazon can be a little slow at reactivating listings.

Once your listing is live, customers will be able to back order your product. You will make less money per sale and you won't get as many sales this way. Your rankings and BSR will still drop, BUT you will still get SOME sales and your rankings and BSR will not drop NEARLY as much as they would if you had simply left your listing inactive until your new stocks arrive at FBA.

If you need to, go back in periodically and update the 'Quantity' to add a few more units.

[Caveat: Do not do this if you don't actually know when your product is expected to be back in stock. Only do it of you either have stock on the way, or stock ready for shipping. If you have any doubts about your stock being ready on time, do not do this! YES, I know I’m repeating myself on this point, but for a very good reason. IF you use this method and your stock does not arrive at Amazon before the date the orders are due to be fulfilled, your seller metrics will be negatively impacted. So please, please, take note of the risk factor involved here and use this strategy wisely.]

    Step 2 -

As soon as your new stock arrives at FBA and has been processed, you can switch your listing back over to 'Fulfilled by Amazon'

Now you need to process the back orders manually one at a time.

Click on the drop down box beside 'Edit' under Manage Inventory' and select 'create fulfillment order'.

Now you can enter the back order customer's details and have the product shipped to them.

You will find these details under 'Manage Orders'

After you have created a fulfillment order for each back order, simply click 'Confirm Shipment' for each one under 'Manage Orders'

By taking these steps, very often when your products are back in stock at FBA and you switch back to 'Fulfilled by Amazon', your rankings and BSR will go back up again without any further action on your part. This is especially true if your listing is established.

If, after 5 days your rankings and BSR are still lagging, try dropping your price by one or two dollars temporarily. You can raise it again once you have regained your rankings and BSR, which should not take more than a few days.

If you still need a bit of an extra boost, create a promotion with a sale (don't forget to protect your inventory).

    How to Slow Down Sales

Umm, why would you ever want to slow down sales?

For the same reason as above – to prevent running out of stock or to reduce the time your listing is out of stock. Less sales is still better than no sales.

Since the above method of allowing customers to pre-order is a bit of a risk, some of you may prefer to play it safe by slowing sales and making your inventory last longer.

The way to do this is by increasing the price. The time to do this is as soon as you realise you are probably going to run out of stock before you are able to get inventory to the warehouse. You might want to start by adding, say $2 to the price. The effect should be immediate, so you will know quite quickly whether or not you need to increase the price further. Sometimes you might need to increase it by as much as $5 or even more because I’ve known a price increase of $2 to have a positive effect on sales as opposed to a negative one. So you will need to test!

When your new stock arrives, you will almost certainly have dropped some rankings, but not as much as you would have if you actually run out. Try setting your price at $1 lower than it was originally until your rankings go back up.

The 5 key things you need to do to ensure success

1.Make a 'to do' list every morning and create that list in order of priority. Highlight the things that MUST be done that day, and make sure they get done!

2.Always inspect the very first order (at least) from your supplier before it gets sent to Amazon. Make sure the items are packaged correctly and make sure the case has the Amazon FBA label on it. If and when you advance to using sea shipping, EVERY order should be inspected before going to Amazon. This is because the outer boxes frequently get damaged during sea freight and often need replacing.

3.Take the time to make sure your listings are the best they can be. Your images, title and bullet points should be RED HOT. Tweak them until you are 100% happy. Make

your images interesting. Don't just have loads of images showing different angles of your product.

4.Reply to your customer messages within 24 hours. This is vital if you are going to maintain a good seller rating and good account health. As you grow, you can outsource a lot of these types of tasks and there are companies who specialize in assisting Amazon sellers with the day to day running of their operations.

5.Start scaling up as soon as you hit a steady 15-20 sales a day with your first product. It's easy to get a bit lazy when you have a regular income coming in for (by that time) a small amount of work. Successful sellers are always looking for their next selling opportunity.

The Things NOT to waste your time on!

1.Worrying about the small stuff, such as what other sellers are doing. If they are breaking the rules, that’s up to them! Let Amazon do the policing and YOU focus on your own business. Of course, if you see a listing doing really well, you may be able to learn something from that listing, but that’s different. Remember, successful sellers never sweat the small stuff!

2.Press Releases. For some reason, I've seen other courses talking about Press Releases as if they are the ‘holy grail’. Sure, they used to be effective, but times have changed. Nowadays, unless you happen to be a big brand name or announcing something that the news channels would actually want to publish, then the only place your Press Release will appear is on a ton of obscure pages. And yes, I'm talking about paid Press Releases too!

3.Forums (with the exception of the seller central forum when you need to get a question answered.) Successful Amazon sellers rarely have time to lurk in forums. What you get in those places are mainly novices, or people who are not focusing on the things they SHOULD be focusing on.

4.Discounting Your Product to $1 in Order to Kick Start Sales and Rankings. I'm mentioning this because it's taught in some other courses and guides. It's a TERRIBLE idea! Not only will you be losing money, but you are devaluing your product way too much. Your product will have little value to someone who has only paid $1 for it and

because of that, these customers are less likely to bother leaving a review. Additionally, Amazon does not like these kinds of promotions. Stick to 30% - 50% off, or 70% if you really need to, but don’t discount at more than 70%.

Non-US Residents: If you want to sell on Amazon.com

I've seen plenty of information about selling on Amazon.com when you are a resident of another country. However, all of it falls short and leaves the reader with unanswered questions. Often the 'advice' is coming from somebody who lives in the US and therefore has never actually done it!

So here's what you need to know:

1.You will need a US address in case your shipping carriers need to send you any correspondence.

I use www.mailboxforwarding.com for $14.95 per month. They will scan and email any incoming mail to you. Be sure to give this address to whoever is arranging shipping for you.

[UPDATE: Clevvermail.com is a relatively new service and for the first 6 months it’s actually free. Thereafter it’s about $1 a month. You only get one piece of incoming mail for that and if you get more, you are charged for it. However, the chances are that you won’t get more than one, if you get any at all. Even if you got 2 or 3, it still works out cheaper!]

2.Since US based sellers are able to receive stock at their home for the purposes of checking and/or repackaging, making bundles etc., and non-US based sellers cannot - this means we need a company to do this for us.

At this time, the one I would recommend is www.fbainspection.com

It's not only non-US resident sellers that use companies like FBA Inspection. Many US based sellers use them too, so that they can focus on other aspects of their business and not get bogged down with menial tasks.

3.As of April 2015, Amazon started to withhold VAT (on FBA fees only, not on sales) from sellers who reside in Europe. To prevent this, you need a VAT number, which of course means that you need to be selling as a company, as opposed to an individual. It goes without saying that if you do not have a company yet, at some point you will probably want to get one in order to pay the lesser tax rate for corporations.

Don't let this hold you up. In fact, never let anything like this stop you from getting going and getting going and selling on Amazon.

If you are an EU resident and don't have a VAT number right now, VAT charged on FBA fees will be withheld from your income. But as soon as you DO get one, you can provide Amazon with it and they will immediately stop withholding VAT from you.

4.If you find that you are losing in exchange fees when Amazon send US dollars to your bank account in another country, you can try using World First. They offer a service to Amazon sellers that will (probably) give you a better exchange rate than your bank.

    https://www.worldfirst.com/us/online-sellers/

    Conclusion

This document along with the course contains all the knowledge you need in order to absolutely KILL IT on Amazon – providing that you are willing to work!

All you need to do now is take action.

Don't delay, don't put things off until the 'time is right'. Start now with a single product and begin scaling as soon as possible. Use the seller forums when you get stuck. Use seller support when you have an issue. But above all keep moving forward.

    Reviews

How to get 4 x More Reviews

Firstly, although sellers do get the phone number of customers who have placed an order, I do not believe that phoning customers is a good idea. Having tried it myself and listened to others who have also tried it, I don't advise it. Many customers get annoyed because they feel that it's an intrusion.

    There's a much better way!

Use a service that links your customers to an automatic email follow up sequence. Providing you don't overdo it and only send 2 or 3 emails, you won't have any problems and you will get a lot more reviews AND better seller feedback!

I advise sending 3 emails spaced out over 2 weeks.

The first goes out immediately the order is shipped and informs them of such. It’s all linked up to your Amazon account and as soon as the order ships, the email is triggered and sent.

The second goes out after one week. It asks them if they received their order and if so, was everything okay. It also asks them to leave seller feedback and includes the link for them to do this.

The third goes out after another week and asks for an unbiased review. The link for them to click on and leave a review is included in the email.

I find this works really well. Even though Amazon themselves send emails to our customers, you get a lot more reviews by adding a few of your own.

There are several services that can do this job. Feedback Genius is one of them. All you do is set it up once, connect it to your Amazon seller account (very easy to do!) and that's it. You only ever need to set it up once for each product you are selling. You can begin using Feedback Genius for free and then upgrade your plan as orders increase.

WARNING – never ask for a positive review or try to influence the customer to leave a positive review. Additionally, never offer the customer anything in exchange for a review and don’t ask more than once. Amazon has clamped down on these sorts of activities and since May 2018, they have removed 100’s of 1000’s of reviews from listings. The removed reviews were deemed to have been gained through improper practices. As far as is known, no sellers were suspended, but some listings have had limitations put on them as far as how many reviews can be posted on those listings in a given time period. To avoid your listing have reviews removed, or having review limits imposed, do not break or bend any rules

    More Resources

Below are some helpful free resources not already mentioned in the course.

    FBA Toolkit http://fbatoolkit.com

This tool lets you enter a BSR for a particular category brings back a figure that is supposed to tell you how many sales a day are being made for that BSR. Can be helpful to give you rough comparisons between different categories, but take their actual sales figures with a pinch of salt. They are way too low. I sell in a number of different categories and whenever I enter my BSR into FBA Toolkit, it comes back with a figure of a lot less than I am actually selling. However, as mentioned, it can give you a rough comparison between different categories.

Top 10 Tools to Amazon FBA Success
I’ve never liked Top 10 lists. I’m process-oriented. So, here’s a step-by-step process for Amazon success. This is how Amazon sellers start faster. Enjoy.
    Product Selection
Nothing trumps this. Pick a loser and you’ll have to restart, pick a winner and the game accelerates. It’s that simple.
Here’s how I do it, in order!
    1. The Jungle Scout Webapp
Today, I start here – a database of Amazon success. I have to thank Greg Mercer for this one. He’s a personal friend, a two time guest of FBA ALLSTARS and owns Jungle Scout. But believing bias motivates this selection is foolhardy. The webapp provides a custom filter system for searching Amazon products and a huge database of information. You can choose categories, target BSRs (or Best Seller Rankings), sales, reviews, sizes – the options are vast.
This makes finding profitable products easier – way easier honestly. It’s almost scary. But I start here searching for my brand. After setting filters, everything fits my criteria for successful private label products. I track these in a Google spreadsheet.
Then it’s time for Amazon + Jungle Scout.
    MonetizePros Tip!
Google Keyword Planner does the trick but can be difficult to use. We recommend using SEMRush for everything keyword research related. It also has a lot of other features that’ll come handy with your Amazon FBA business. Spy on your competitors, see where they’re spending their PPC budget, what keywords are bringing them the most traffic and much more.
The best part is, we’ve organised you a 30-day free trial of the pro version, use the coupon below to claim your deal!
    SEMrush Coupon 2018
Click the link below to receive your SEMrush FREE 30-day trial worth $69.95. For ease of use the coupon will already be applied for you at the checkout. All you need to do it enter your information and the 1 month trial begins.

    9. Salesbacker
Salesbacker doesn’t have this feature of feedback triggers. It does however have quite a lot Feedback Genius lacks. Chiefly, improved analytics and testing. It’s also got canned emails which help you get setup. And in case you haven’t got a rank tracker, Salesbacker’s got your back on BSR tracking.
    Product Launches and Reviews
Sales don’t start themselves. You need to do a blast to build up reviews, boost your rank and get sales going. That’s how the algorithm works. Amazon makes money on sales. That means your product needs to sell to make Amazon succeed. Sell and you’re rewarded, stagnate and your rankings drop.
It’s not all about sales though. Reviews help too. Reviews are social proof that strengthen conversion rates. A solid base of reviews with spiked sales and your listing will start itself.
    10. Tomoson
Reviewers love products. Sellers love sales, and reviews. Tomoson’s a way to work together – matching sellers offering with promotions with product testers. It has an awful interface and is challenging to use, but it’s free, it’s easy and it will help you find reviewers faster. Plus Tomoson has a free month trial so time it right and you won’t pay a dime. Play with the site before getting started and then scouting reviewers. It’s time to promote your product with coupon codes and speed those sales.
The Scaled Success of Your Amazon FBA Business
Amazon’s a Wild West of profit. And every goldminer has got his tools. Tools don’t make the business, they build the opportunity. You don’t need ANY of the tools we’ve covered. But why handicap yourself? To build a bigger, better, more efficient Amazon business, some things just make sense.

    Product selection.
Find products on Amazon that will sell well and provide a high profit margin. Each of the product you select will be from different categories. List products you feel would be top Amazon sellers. Here is a list of categories you want to avoid.  Which products are restricted https://services.amazon.com/services/soa-approval-category.htm

Amazon items Fire TV and echo Entertainment Collectibles photos and prints on Kindle and the readers and tablets.
Automotive and Powersports Fine Art Sexual Wellness
    books. Fine Jewelry Sports Collectibles
Clothing, Accessories, Shoes, and Luggage Gift Cards Textbook Rentals
Collectible Books Grocery and Gourmet Foods Toys & Games (Holiday Guidelines)
Collectible Coins Kindle Accessories Video music apps
credit and payment products Major Appliances Video, DVD, and Blu-ray
    Watches
    Wine

Start by clicking here and then look at the top left corner of the page for the 3 line drop down menu. From there you can choose your categories.  Here are the categories that you can chose from:
     Electronics/Computers/Office
    Smart home
    Home, garden and tools
    Pet supplies
    Toys, Kids and babies
    Handmade
    Sports and Outdoors
    Home services.
Health and beauty is no longer restricted but you have to get approval for many of the products. So you may want to stay away from here as well.

Best sellers, top rated and hot new releases is another good place to start. YOUR PRODUCTS MUST BE SPLIT UP BETWEEN 4 DIFFERENT CATEGORIES

    Step 2.
Download the following spreadsheet and familiarize yourself with the kind of products you are going to avoid. You can enter all the information of your products into the spreadsheet. Below you will see the criteria you must follow when choosing a product (it will also be on the spreadsheet).

    1. Product cannot be perishable. It must be non perishable. Meaning it is not subject to rapid deterioration or decay.
    2. BSR (best seller rating) must be between 100 and 3000.
    3. The product weight must be lower than 10 ounces.
    4. The product size should be from 6 x.5x.5 to 9x3x6. No larger.
    5. The product must not contain any glass pieces or be made of glass.
    6. The product cannot be put on the skin or ingested into the body.
7  The product price must be between $15.99-$40

In order to see the best seller ranking you may have to click through the different subcategories within the category you chose. The example below is for a dog bed and here is the path I took to the product.  Pet Supplies/ Dogs/ Beds & Furniture/ Best Sellers

Here is the location to download the spreadsheet. www.jobpostcentral.net/amazon_product.xlsx  If you do not have excel let me know and you can work on google sheets.

    Step 3.
See how many searches are made for your particular product. You can use  https://www.merchantwords.com/ . Please keep in mind the search term can be different and that is because we want to know how many times the product not term is searched. For example if your product was the product in this link Click here you can enter fire starter rod in www.merchantwords.com and then you can enter fire starter flint (since it is the same thing just 2 different ways to say it). You can add both search volumes into one volume. You must not choose any products that have less than 40,000 searches. Enter the number of searches into your spreadsheet.

    Step 4.
Find out if you are allowed to sell the product you chose on Amazon. Go to the product page on amazon scroll down until you find the ASIN number

Copy the ASIN number login to an Amazon sellers account, click on inventory, then click on add a new product. In the search bar paste the asin number. If the only limited restrictions says you are not allowed to sell collector quality or refurbished, it is ok and we can sell that product. We do not plan on selling refurbished or collectable products.

    ADVANCED PRODUCT SELECTION

    Vendor Selection.

    Step 1.
Take your list of qualifying Amazon products and find the best suppliers. Copy all of the products and paste them into the product column within the following spreadsheet. You can download that spreadsheet here

    Step 2.
Create accounts with the following three supply companies.
    https://www.alibaba.com/
    https://www.aliexpress.com/
    www.Koleimports.com

    Step 3.
Now that you have your 3 accounts you can start to look for the products within your spreadsheet on the supplier sites (start with Alibaba).
You can enter all the information for a qualifying product vendor into the spreadsheet. Below you will see the criteria you must follow when choosing a vendor (it will also be on the spreadsheet).

    1. The vendor must have trade assurance. To filter only those suppliers click on supplier type tab on the top and click trade assurance.

    2. Years selling: Must be a minimum of 2 years. If the supplier is a ‘Gold Plus Supplier’, the 2 year minimum selling history does not apply
    3. Gold supplier: Must have gold supplier status. (see image below)
    4. Response time: Must be within 24 hours.
    5. Response Rate: Must be a minimum of 75%
    6. Delivery time: maximum 30 days after payment
    7.  Price: Must be a maximum of $3
    8.  Minimum order: Must be a maximum of 100 units but would prefer 50. Send the seller a message and ask if they can do a minimum of 50 units.
    9.  Minimum order after email request: Same as above.
    10.  Trading locations: Must ship to North America. If you click on  view company profile (highlighted in yellow)  it will say what the main markets are.

The image below is what shows up when you click on one of the products. As you can see all of the criteria we have stated above is being shown with a red arrow.

Here is the location to download the spreadsheet.   If you do not have excel let me know and you can work on google sheets.
    Step 3.
Send the supplier an email. Here is the instructions. If you see the image above there is a  link that says get latest prices highlighted in yellow.   Click the link at the top of the page that says 'Get Latest Price' In the quantity box, enter the quantity that you are interested in buying. Do not go over 100 units. Next, click the 'Enter More Requirements Here' and enter the following:

    Hello

I'm interested in this product. My company retails on Amazon and we are always looking for quality products to add to our line up.

Could you please send me the latest price.

We would like to start with a small order and if we are happy, we will place a larger order afterwards.

    Look forward to your response.

    Best Regards

    (your full name here)

If the supplier replies back and accepts the lower quantity, you will want to ask what the actual price would be based on the number of units purchase. In addition ask for the total price with shipping.

    Step 4.
Repeat the process for all of the products that are in your spreadsheet. Making sure that you fill in all of the content in the spreadsheet as you go.

    Step 2.
Once you have downloaded the spreadsheet and have added all the products in the first 20 (yellow cells) you can begin the listing process. Doing so we are going to start with images. For each product get 5 images and 1 video. If you can use the maximum amount of images for each product that is even better (the average for each catagory is 7). The first image will be the main image. The 2nd will be the infographic image and the other can be just different images of the product.

To get the images do 1 of the 3 following steps.
    1. Ask the supplier for images of the product and if they have water marks ask for them to be removed.
    2. Take pictures of the product and edit them yourself.
    3. Use a content creation vendor (like Fiver). See list below.
    4. Send the product to a company that takes pictures and videos of your product. Here is what we found. Amazon Product Photography Tools & Services  Cheapest pixelz.com $2 per edit,  amazonshots.com $20 per shot, gen.video $300 per video
